Service Projects

We will be working together as a troop to earn the
President's Volunteer Service Award.

For the calendar year of 2004, the troop earned the Bronze Level Award for Groups by completing over
250 hours of community service.

This year, we are working towards the Silver Level Award for Groups and will complete more than
500 hours of community service!

This Year's Completed Service Projects

August School Supply Drive
benefiting Lilburn Cooperative Ministry and Project Backpack
and assists in Junior Bronze Award Project

Many of the supplies collected were added to backpacks brought for Project Backpack - and we were able to fill over a dozen backpacks - and have lots of supplies left over to help fill in other packs.

September Canned Food Drive
benefits Lilburn Cooperative Ministry

Our scouts brought enough food to really load down Mrs. Lila's van - there was almost not enough room for children.  Mr. Mikey and Mrs. Danita, who carried out the canned foods, say that next time, the drop off point should be at Mrs. Lila's van instead.  Mrs. Danita went home with a backache after all that heavy lifting!

September

Project Backpack
benefits the children who come to our area following Hurricane Katrina.

Scouts brought school supplies including backpacks, folders, paper, notebooks, crayons, scissors and glue and packed more than a dozen backpacks for now-local students displaced to our area following Hurricane Katrina.

September

National Public Lands Service Day
benefits the Lake Allatoona Cleanup

We took three FULL vans to the GREAT LAKE ALLATOONA CLEAN-UP.
Scouts collected trash from the shoreline and the waterside.  We collected more than a dozen lawn-sized garbage bags full of trash and piled up over 50 tires on the shore for collection.  Later, we enjoyed a picnic with other scouts and volunteers on the shore of the lake.

November Christmas Boxes
benefits Operation Christmas Child
in cooperation with Samaritan's Purse

Once again, our scouts came together to pack shoeboxes that will likely be the only gift to needy children the world over.  As usual, scouts brought in lots of goodies and necessities and we set up a "store."  The troop added lots of other items to round out the inventory and we went to work stuffing boxes.  At the meeting this year, our troop packed over 75 boxes.  Later, at home, the leaders were able to use the leftovers to fill another 20!

December Christmas Dinner Baskets
benefits the  Lilburn Cooperative Ministry

Canned foods and non-perishables were taken to the Lilburn Co-op to be shared with local disadvantaged families.
