Our
Accomplishments

All scouts will earn many badges this year, and will have the
opportunity to collect many interest patches.
Because of the large size and multiple levels of our troop this
year, we will not be completing whole badges at each meeting. Scouts will
be required to keep track of their badge progress. Below are the
activities that we've worked on in meetings and troop campouts.
Brownie Try-Its...
Are achievement patches earned by Brownie Girl Scouts aged 6-8. In
order to earn a try-it, the scout must complete four activities from the Brownie
Try-it Book. Many activities are things that we work on in meetings, while
a few must be completed at home.
| Write Away Using our own story starters to tell "traveling stories" was fun - and silly! Group writing is a real scream. Being a reporter and writing "newspaper" articles was a real challenge. The interview was the most important part - you had to think hard about what you needed to ask. |

Dancercize On the night we were evacuated from school, we moved our meeting to Stevie B.s - Thank goodness they have a large "party room" - 'cause we really partied. We watched several clips of different types of dance - from the 20's, 40's, 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's. We tried a few new dances - waltz, tap, salsa and line dance. They were all fun - but we still like the Macarena best! |

Junior Badges...
Are earned by Junior Girl Scouts aged 8-11. These badges are earned
by completing six activities from the Junior Girl Scout Badge Book. As Junior Girl
Scouts are becoming more autonomous, more of their work is done at home.
For this reason, each scouts will work on the subsections of her choice, while
we all work to complete the same badge.

But the most fun of the whole weekend was the Lazer Obstacle! Navigating through the maze of "lazers" without setting off the "alarms" was a daunting task! |

Music Fan On September 13th, we used household objects to make instruments from the percussion, strings and woodwinds families. Sammy writes... I liked making maracas out of a bottle, some rice and some beans. It was so fun doing that. I liked the noise it made. We could make it just out of rice or just out of beans. It was also fun doing the sand blocks. It was easy to make all we had to do was glue some sandpaper on a chunk of wood or block of wood. Ashley writes...I enjoyed making music from objects we often use daily. We ran out of time at our September 13th meeting, but we'll work on finishing this badge later. |

Camp Together We began on our Callaway Gardens campout over Labor Day Weekend. We worked hard at making plans for trips both imaginary and real, discussing weather and clothing needs and evaluating the trip we shared. In Asheville we learned about good camping practices. But before we left, we learned about meal planning, sharing responsibilities and planning for our own clothing needs. When we returned, we took time to evaluate our trip - and we're eager to use our new skills to plan our next trip. |

Your Outdoor Surroundings While camping over Labor Day weekend, we tried hiking on a local trail - we looked hard for the colors to be found in nature. We had a great time planning an imaginary trip to Florida - and learned how important our budget is to our planning. In Asheville, we learned about minimal impact camping - and we took another color-palette hike - some of our scouts didn't get to go on the first one. At camp, we played a fun game collecting items from nature and describing them to a partner who tried to draw based on the description. |
